This year will be my first Christmas far from our families. For much sad that it might sound, we tried and enjoyed decorating our little house with a very tiny Christmas tree, some poinsettias, candles, branches, moss, a scruffy advent calendar and some home-made cinnamon decorations. It feels cosy, warm and festive. Its simplicity is nice and reassuring. It makes us happy.
We received a big box of little presents from J's mum and family, which we disposed underneath the little fir. We added a couple of small things we made or bought for each other, nothing big and yet thoughtful. Because even though we will never admit it, we like to un-wrap. The simple gesture defines this time of the year and brings some joy to the moment.
I created a little gift list with things I love and would definitely love to find under my tree, and I am sure I wouldn't be the only one. There are ideas for a wide variety of receivers. I hope it will inspire you to find something cute for your beloved in case you're still looking. Or why not, something to treat yourself to --this is the best time to do it.
But first, let me start with a present that any Italian food lover would love to find under the Christmas tree: I Love Toscana by Giulia Scarpaleggia, published by Food Editore
My dear friend Giulia has put her all self in the pages of her new, stunning book, filled with traditional recipes which space from her family to the whole Tuscan region; with childhood anecdotes, words of wisdom, cultural references, travel tips and producer reviews. It is not just a Tuscan cookbook: it is a guide to a region, rich and complex, to its gastronomy, its geography and its cultures. Everything is brought to us by Giulia, whose deeply Tuscan soul fills the pages with heart-felt dishes and beautiful, bright and warming photos. It feels like being there with us: she makes us ache and long for a week in those magical places, tasting the food, going truffle hunting and olive picking, and at the end of the day, sharing a meal from antipasto to dessert with any of the delectable dishes she shares on the book. With a special contribution by photographer Ellen Silverman for landscape photos, and an introduction by food writer Tessa Kiros, the book is a complete package of beauty, cooking inspiration, and daydreaming. Perfect for the winter holidays, to travel with our mind and why not? Book a holiday in a lovely Tuscan agriturismo and a Tuscan cooking class with Giulia in the next months!
